CPI(M) leader beaten on road in Kharagpur for protesting wall demolition, shirt torn
The tenure of West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Pant has been extended by six months after the Centre approved a proposal sent by the state government. His current term was scheduled to end on June 30. Following the extension, he will continue in the role until the end of December 2025. The proposal for extension was sent from Nabanna, and the Centre gave its approval on the same day.
Manoj Pant, an IAS officer of Additional Chief Secretary rank, was appointed as Chief Secretary in August 2024. Before that, he was serving as the Secretary of the Finance Department but was later transferred to the Irrigation Department by the Chief Minister. He was then appointed Chief Secretary, replacing the outgoing officer. Sources indicate that the extension has been given to ensure continuity in administrative work.
Earlier in his career, Pant served as the private secretary to former Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. He also held the position of Joint Secretary at the Centre and later represented the Indian government at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C., for an extended period.
